Meet Groover Labs member Greg Wilson. Greg joined last year, and we’ve come to learn he is incredibly talented. Through Selah Creative Services, Greg brings websites and music to life.
We sat down with Greg to learn more about his digital marketing background, and we absolutely had to know how we learned to play so many different instruments! Read the interview below.
Tell us about your work. What do you do?
I run Selah Creative Services LLC, where I focus on digital marketing and music services. On the digital side, through Selah Create, I specialize in website design, development, graphic design, SEO, social media management, and Google My Business Profile optimization.
On the music side, through Selah Music Studio, I teach music for piano, guitar (including for groups), violin, drums, and music composition. I teach in my home studio and record and produce music for myself and my clients. I’m starting to perform at live venues at senior living facilities, and I’m expanding to coffee shops.
How did you build your digital marketing skills?
As a kid, I learned HTML by watching videos online and creating offline web pages as a hobby. Later, I developed CSS coding skills through Treehouse. In 2021, I earned a full-stack web development certification through LambdaTech, now the Bloom Institute of Technology, where I focused on JavaScript, Node.js, and React.js. For my capstone, I built a fully functional app with front-end and back-end development—all from raw code.
What industries do you specialize in for digital marketing?
Most of my clients are startups, small businesses, and service providers. I’ve worked with general contractors, roofers, and even an aerospace company—we’re seeing hits from all over the world, and we’re very excited! My goal is to help my clients establish a strong presence online, whether through websites, SEO, or branding.
What impact has AI had on SEO?
Traditional SEO relies on optimizing keywords, titles, descriptions, and technical factors so search engines can find you. AI might prioritize different elements like user intent and behavior patterns. In the end, if you produce high-quality content, AI will capture it in some form.
You have an incredibly diverse set of skills—one analytical and the other creative. Where do they intersect?
Web development bridges creativity and logic. For example, CSS lets me translate my creativity into functional design by coding layouts, and visual elements. In the same way, music combines creative expression with analytical theory like keys and cords. While I lean toward creativity, analytical thinking balances out how I work.
How did you learn so many instruments?
How did I learn all the instruments? I guess I’ve got the music gene! I started playing percussion in 6th grade in school band, which led to playing the piano at home. With my dad’s guitar and book of chords, I taught myself over time. When we moved, my new school didn’t have a strong band, so I took up violin (something I’d wanted to do for a while) and orchestra. I went to college at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Wesleyan, where I studied classical piano.
How long have you been a Groover Labs members?
Since September 2024.
How has Groover Labs supported your work?
Groover Labs is a fantastic space for managing my business. Sometimes I need to write sheet music or work on a digital project, and the environment at Groover Labs–both the space and the people–helps me focus. It’s a great space that helps me bring everything together. I love the positivity and kindness of the staff, as well as some other nice perks like coffee and printing!
How would you classify your business?
Selah Create is a small digital marketing agency. I handle most of the work myself, though, sometimes, I collaborate with a few good freelance designers I know. Selah Music Studio is both a teaching environment and music studio where I combine music and education.
